Administration

  • Can I delete my guild site?
Guild Site Admins can now "cancel" their guild's site. They can do this by going to the "Site Settings". This however, just removes it from public view and does not full delete it. Please note that WowStead does delete cancelled sites that lack activity after so long. This is to release the subdomain as well as clear up space.
  • How can I log into my admin panel?
    Follow this guide [LINK].
  • How can I makes someone else an Admin or Moderator of our site?
    Follow this guide [LINK].
  • How to I ban an ex-member from our site?
If they still have access to restricted areas of your site you can follow this guide [LINK]. If they are causing issues on public areas you can use the banning feature in the admin panel by submitting their character's name and banning their character, account and/or IP address.
  • I have my own Domain (.com) and want to set my site to it. How can I do this?
You'll want to follow this guide [LINK]. This is specific to GoDaddy, but will be basically the same for all hosts.
  • I was admin, but not any more. How can I get admin rights back?
WowStead does not give admin right to anyone other then a verified Guild Leader.  This doesn't matter if you were the site creator or are second in charge.  If you are not the verified Guild Leader then WowStead will not give you admin rights.  For security reason WowStead cannot give admin rights to anyone other then the Guild's Leader and only after verifying their character.  You will need to either request being made admin again by the present admin(s) or if an upset ex member took the site hostage then your guild leader will need to follow the following guide to regain control of the site  [LINK] .

WowStead does not know the reasoning behind why admin(s) were removed.  You may be legit in still having good standings with the guild and should be admin of the site, or you may not be in good standings with your guild and was removed from the guild and the site and trying to gain access to the site for revenge reasons. WowStead does not know the situation and will not risk the security of the Guild's site.    This is why we will only give admin rights to a verified Guild Leader.
  • Our guild is realm jumping/recreating/merging with another. How can we keep our site?

    • Old Guild Name
    • Old Guild Realm
    • Old Guild Location (EU, US, etc.)

  • Members of my guild can't see restricted forums,. Why?
They are probably not verified for your site or not of the proper rank. Make sure both the Category and Forum are of their rank or lower. If your members are having issues verifying direct them to this guide [LINK].

This is a known bug. It does change in some areas, but not all of them. This is hopefully going to be fixed in the forum update that is going to be taken place int he future.
  • Why can't I post a video to my post?
Make sure you are using a fuctional browser like Firefox. IE does have some issues with posting things so it is suggested not to use it for this. Could be the program you used or the format the image is.  Also right now it is known that Safari and Google Chrome are having issues viewing photos in the Gallery.

Guild Password

  • As the guild site admin can I change the Guild Password?
Yes, you need to do this through the Admin Panel. Under Site Setting, 2nd section down. Put in the new password.
  • Can I turn off the Guild Password?
No, this is a protection feature for your site.
  • How do members know if they need to still verify?
They will see a blinking red "Notice" at the top in the Netbar [LINK].
  • How do they submit the Guild Password?
One of two place are default to your site. First, they can click on the blinking "Notice" and a text field will popup there. Second they can go into their Character Management, click on the "Guild" tab and click the Join GUILD button, which will bring up a text field [LINK].
  • I have registered and haven't verified to the guild site yet, but I don't see the blinking "Notice"?
Make sure your character is on the guild's Roster. Also make sure that the character you are wanting to verify is the active one. If you are on the Roster you can always go through your Character Management under the Guild tab and verify through there [LINK]
  • I have some members who aren't good with computers and can't figure out how to verify. What can I do?
You can do several things. One thing you can do is set up the following, which will check to see if they are verified and if they aren't it will popup a thickbox requesting that they do so [LINK] or you can give them the link to the following guide [LINK].
  • I'm trying to verify my character, but don't know the Guild Password. Where can I find this?
Each guild will be different in how this information is given to it's members. One place to check is in the Guild Information in-game. Another is to ask a guild officer or the site admin.
  • Many of my members don't realize they need to Verify and don't see the "Notice". Is there a way to make it more obveous?
Yes, there is a guide written up on the forums that will check to see if they are verified and if they aren't it will popup a thickbox requesting that they do so [LINK].
  • Should I post the Guild Password on my site?
No, like any other password you do not want this to be public for people who shouldn't have it. Place it somewhere like the Guild Information ingame or have members request it from guild Officers.
  • Someone just joined our guild and they can't verify because they aren't on our Roster. What can we do?
It can take the WoW Armory several hours to several days to update adding new members. Either they can wait until the Roster updates or you can go in and manually add them to your Roster. [LINK].
  • What is the Guild Password?
It is the password that is set for your guild site, that members will need to submit in order to become verified to the guild site. They will only need to do this once. Since restrictions are based on characters' in-game ranks, and anyone can claim an unclaimed character to their account, this keeps them from accessing restricted areas. In order for a member to get to the restricted areas they must be on the Roster and Verify.
  • What should I do if a member leaves the guild on bad terms, but has the Guild Password?
You can always change the Guild Password. I would actually say change it every month to 6 months like you would any other password. This way exguild members won't still have it. Don't forget to update and notify members of the change. Also it can take some time for the WoW Armory to update, thus they may stay on your Roster for several days after leaving or getting /kick. So if they begin to cause issues you may want to set all their characters on your guild Roster to Guest [LINK].  Site Admins also have the ability to ban people from the site via character, account or the person's IP address.
  • Why as a guild member should I verify?
Restricted areas on your guild site is based on ingame ranking. In order to see these you must have both your Character's name on the guild Roster and Verify. If you don't then you won't be able to access any forums, events, modules, or custom contents that are set to ranks higher then Guest.
  • Why is there a Guild Password?
This is a protection feature. Since restrictions are based on characters' in-game ranks, and anyone can claim an unclaimed character to their account, this keeps them from accessing restricted areas. In order for a member to get to the restricted areas they must be on the Roster and Verify.
  • Will changing the password effect verified members?
No, once verified you don't need to worry about the Guild Password again unless you are adding other characters or leave the guild on the web site then come back. At that time you will need to know the new Guild Password.

News

  • Can I make news posts rank restricted?
At this time no your can not.
  • Can I sticky my guild's news?
Not at this time. What you can do, however, if you want it at the top you can put it under the welcome in the Welcome section. This will put it above news.
  • My center column goes under the right navbar. How can I fix this?
You have something in the content that is way too large and not allowing the section to scale back down for lower resolution monitors.
    • Check News Articles and Welcome message for tables that have specific widths and set them to 100%.
    • If you have large images use the following guide [LINK].
    • Make sure there isn't a long line of text that isn't broken.
    • Never copy and paste things from Microsoft Word.

Raid History

  • Is there a way to auto update raid history info?
Yes, by using the addon HeadCount and following this guide [LINK].
  • Why can't I assign loot to a character that is not registered?
Because there needs to be an account for the information to be tied to and saved.

Recruiting

  • How can I make my application questions go in a specific order?
Before your question label them 01., 02., 03., and so on. This will make the answers go by numeric order. Remember 1-9 to put the 0 in front or 10 will come before 2.
  • How do I delete questions I don't want to use anymore?
You can't.  Set them as inactive will make it so they do not show on the application, and reuse them later if you need to add a new question.

Roster

  • How can I delete a member who has left my guild but still on my roster?
    Follow this guide [LINK].
  • How can I see which members have verified their accounts?
    Follow this guide [LINK].
  • I just joined/left a guild, but I am not on/on their roster still, why?
WowStead pulls it's information from WoW Armory. It takes several hours to a few days for the armory to update guild changes (disbanding, added/removed members, level increase, etc.) This is a likely source of why. If you need to be added have the site's admin manual add you [LINK]. If it shows on the Armory you are in fact in the guild have your site's admin do a force update.  Make sure you check your Armory Profile as well.  This can help update your character's information.
  • Our information isn't displaying correctly. Why?
Try viewing the characters' porfiles both on WowStead and the WoW Armory.  You may also want to consider doing a forced roster update, but don't do this often.

Site Errors

  • I am using IE8 and things like the FAQ when adding have section that are empty and is not editable, what can I do?
Go to Tools and then Compatibilty View Settings.  Then check Display All websites in Compatibility View.
  • My guild site is already created by someone we don't know and now we can't make a new one. What can we do?
If the link to the site goes to a guild site that does in fact belong to your giuld then you will need your guild leader to gain admin rights to the site and then give them to whomever he/she sees fit.

For the Guild Leader to gain admin rights, have him/her follow these steps:
    1.  Register a WowStead user account and add his/her character to the account if he/she has not already done so.
    2. Visit the "Character Management" part of the website (link up top) and click "Verify character ownership".
    3. Follow the instructions given and once the verification process is finished, visit WowStead.com and click "Create a Site".
    4. An option will now be shown, ONLY for a verified guild master character, which can instantly add him/her as a site admin.
They can also use this guide here [LINK]
  • My site has Query Error #. How do I get this fixed?
Please follow directions post here [LINK].
  • Why is my guild showing as a 404 error, how can I fix this?
You will need to submit a ticket to have it reset. This is probably due to an issue with guild site creation, your site being made after the issue arose or site was deleted from the servers due to inactivity after being cancelled.
  • Why is my guild showing as being cancelled, how can I fix this?
If you can't remove the Cancel from your Admin Panel, then you will need to submit a ticket to get the subdomain released or choose a new subdomain. The subdomain is still related to an old guild site that was cancelled then deleted from the servers.

Subscription Site

  • How much does it cost?
    $7.50 per month
  • Not a lot of bang for your buck with features, why shouldn't I go else where?
Let me ask you this, if you go to those other sites how many of those "Subscription" features you are paying for there do you get for free here? How many of those features don't work for Warcraft, but some other game?
  • What all do I get for this?
Several things, but not limited to:
    • Ad free site
    • Access to the Guild Bank and Calendar sync
    • Ability to make Alliances
    • Live Chat Module
    • Subscription restricted Skins and Templates (not yet released)
    • Discount on Vent subscriptions (not yet released)
    • Several other things in the work, but yet to be released to the public...
  • Where can I sign up?
You can go to the link YOURGUILD.wowstead.com/billing to add money to your guilds balance to pay for the subscription.

Tickets & Tech Support

  • How do I submit a ticket?
Go here [LINK] and follow these guidelines to increase the efficiency of your answer response time [LINK].
  • I have submitted a ticket and haven't heard back. How long does it take?
Allot about 12-24 hours for replies. On good days when tickets aren't backed up it should take around 6 - 8 hours. Please also realize that Admins are in the CST and EST times zone in North America so it may be a bit long if you submitted it during American night hours. If tickets are backed up it can take a lot longer. Remember that on a good day 300-500 tickets are submitted this can take about 5-10 hours to answer a days worth of tickets. If a day is missed then there are 600-1000 tickets to respond to. If a week is missed 2100-3500 and 35 to 70 hours time for answering, but you also have to include the normal ticket flow coming in is added to it.
  • What is the tech support hours?
Typically Monday thur Friday with no set hours.

User Accounts

  • How do I change my account name?
Sorry but this can't be done. Please note that at this time your account name isn't used for posting or anything that will display it to the public.
  • How do I change my password/email address?
Go to your Character Management and under the "User PC" tab will be where you can change this information.
  • How do I delete my account?
Since WowStead does not sell or give out any of your personal information, and does not email you unless you set up to, you can pretty much just stop using your account and leave it to collect dust.
  • I can't make an account because my character name is taken. What do I do?
Account login names do NOT have to be the name of your character. However, each login has to be unique. This means there can only be one of each name and someone beat you to it. Just pick a different login name.
  • I don't remember the email and/or used a fake Birth date. How can I get my password?
Well, this information should be kept up-to-date and should be legit. This information isn't given out and is used to claim forgotten passwords so don't fib on this. Mainly all you can do is create a new account and file some character claims as there is no way to prove the account belongs to you since you can't give the required information needed.
  • I forgot my password/login what do I do?
Submit the information requested on this page [LINK] and a new one will be emailed to you.  This will be different then the password you had and each time you request a new password it will change.
  • I have equipped the item and verified, but I can't get to restricted areas on my guild site. What's wrong?
You did not Verify Guild Membership.  What you did was Verify Character Ownership.  These are two different things used for two different reasons.  PLease makes sure you Verify Guild Membership: Guide Here [LINK].
  • I registered, but still don't have access to restricted areas on my guild site. How do I correct this?
Make sure you register an account with WowStead and then Verify your character(s) with the guild site.
  • My character is showing as a *insert info here* and should be *insert info here*. Can we get this fixed?
Try view your character's profile on both the WoW Armory and WowStead.  Sometimes it needs to be viewed to update.  If you have recently changed names/realms/factions it may take the Armory a few to update your information.  Once it does check your profile on WowStead to see if that updates it.
  • My character is taken. How do I get him/her back?
When you try to add the character you will get a link to submit a character claim. You will need to do this and follow the directions given. Before you do this make sure you do not have multiple accounts that you may have registered the character on. If this is the case then go to the extra account and remove the character from that account so that you can add him/her to the other.
  • When I make my character or go to create a guild site I get that my character can't be found on the Armory. What's wrong?
We pull our information from the WoW Armory.  Make sure that the Armory is in fact up and running and you can view your characters profile on the Armory.  If you can't then wait until you can and try again.  You may need to log in to the character in-game and log out and wait a few to see if they works.

After viewing your profile on the Armory also give it another shot.  Sometimes it requires you viewing the profile to update the character.

Ventrilo

  • Does WowStead host Ventrilo servers?
At this time, no, but not for lack of trying on WowStead's end. This may very much change in the near future.
  • How do I set up my Ventrilo display on my guild site?
    Follow this guide [LINK].
  • When WowStead gets Ventrilo will there be a discount?
There is talk of being a discount for subscription sites, but any other package deal has not been mentioned at this time.

WowStead Sync

  • How can I get this to work?
    Follow this guide [LINK].
  • Is the Calendar and Bank sync both subscription?
Yes, anything that has to do with the sync addon is suppose to be subscription sites only... and yes we already know, and it will be getting fixed in the future.
